Capital Campaign

Honoring Our Past.
Preserving Our Future.

For more than 120 years, Holy Angels Church has stood as a beacon of faith, community, and Catholic tradition near the University of Dayton. It is a spiritual home where generations have celebrated baptisms, weddings, First Communions, funerals, and countless moments of grace.

Now part of the Bread of Life/ Pan de Vida Family of Parishes, Holy Angels acts as a cornerstone for Catholic presence in Dayton. As we approach our 125th anniversary in 2026, we are called not only to remember our past but to take bold steps to safeguard our future.

Time and weather have taken a toil on our beloved church. Water damage, aging materials, and years of wear have taken a visible toll, leaving the building in urgent need of care to preserve its character and restore its former beauty. To learn more about the repair and restoration needed, please read the brochure "Repairs and Restoration: Honoring Our Past, Preserving Our Future."

This campaign is not just about brick and mortar. It is about continuing the mission of Holy Angels—serving the spiritual, educational, and sacramental needs of our parish family. Whether you have been part of Holy Angels for decades or joined more recently, we are united by our faith and our responsibility to ensure this holy place endures for future generations.

Summary Responses to Questions about the Capital Campaign

Structure of Campaign and Approach to Work

Several parishioners asked about the Capital Campaign plan itself, and they asked about the approach to the work needed to complete the restoration. Please understand that the need to address the restoration of the building exterior and bell tower is most urgent.  Delaying this work will increase costs.

Some of the work has begun. Insurance paid for damage to the bell tower from a lightning strike, and we were able to use additional funds to take advantage of machinery and contractors already in place for that insurance work to address additional needs of the building. The sound system has already been upgraded. That upgrade included installation of a separate sound system for the choir and choir loft. With your help, we can prevent further deterioration, avoid higher costs, and preserve Holy Angels Church now and for future generations.

Total Campaign Goal: $2.25M

$1.5M – Exterior restoration

$500K – Interior improvements

$250K – Organ repairs*

Your campaign contributions will address:

Roof and bell tower repairs

Masonry restoration and waterproofing

Interior painting and stained-glass repair

Drainage improvements

Organ restoration*

* Please note that a separate assessment of the organ is underway, and organ repairs may become part of a restoration effort over and above the Capital Campaign.

We are willing to receive pledges over time, with a four-year payment plan. The preference is for funds up front to allow us to begin a funded process of selecting a Project Manager for the work. The Project Manager will identify contractors through a bid process, all under the close supervision of both the Holy Angels Parish Business Office and the Pastor. The Project Manager and Contractors will recommend the best materials and structural plan for this work.

Holy Angels School

Several parishioners had questions about Holy Angels School. Holy Angels School is not in scope for the Capital Campaign.  With that said, please know that the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is conducting a diocesan-wide review of all facilities, including Holy Angels School.  Out of that study, we expect prioritized recommendations to address any needs of the Holy Angels School buildings and grounds. That effort is separate from the Capital Campaign, and more information will be available following completion of the diocesan facilities review.
